II. Evaluate the Societal and Environmental Impacts of Technology
Content Standard II, 2: All students will evaluate the societal and environmental impacts of technology to make informed civic, social, and economic decisions.
1. Use historical developments to generalize about the interaction between a society and the technology its people decide to create, support, and use.
lV. Determine the Appropriate Technology to Use
Content Standard lV, 4: All students will be able to determine the appropriate technology to obtain, organize, manipulate, evaluate, and communicate information in any learning environment.
1. Apply technology to obtain, organize, manipulate, evaluate, and communicate information in any learning environment.
Prior Knowledge:
Students must have computer skills which enable them to:
- use computer encyclopedia software for research purposes,
- access the Internet for online research,
- use word processing to type notes and a bibliography,
- use an authoring program to complete their virtual museum projects, and
- use multimedia and graphics CD resources to enhance reports.
Cue Set:
The teacher presents a series of questions for class discussion.
- How does the computer effect our lives today?
- How did the computer achieve the importance it now has in our lives?
- What events or needs brought about the invention of the computer?
- Did inventions from past centuries have anything to do with the development of todays computer?

Review and Closure:
Teams share their virtual museums with their classmates. Discussions of possible influences on the development of their inventions and/or logical inventions to be created in the future may be conducted.
Assessment:
The students are evaluated on the completion and quality of the project components.
- The students research records and bibliographies of sources are judged for accuracy as well as pertinence to the project.
- The presentations of the virtual museums to the class are assessed with a predetermined rubric.
