The East Detroit Public Schools Board of Education is accepting applications for a vacancy on the Board of Education. Appointment expires December 31, 2014.

Applicants must be:

   - A citizen of the United States
- A resident of East Detroit Public Schools District
- A registered voter
- At least 18 years of age

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTNER WITH GENERAL MOTORS TO MAKE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENTS

Ten East Detroit High School students were partnered with retired General Motors employees through
the 2013 GM Student Corp program.  The team worked to complete ten projects over summer break.
Some of what the students learned throughout this process included:

-Planning Skills; - Reaching Consensus; - Teamwork; - Workplace Ethics and Conflict Resolution;

- Leadership Skills; - Working Within a Budget; - Adapting to Obstacles; - Time Management

- Interviewing Skills

FOURWARD READINESS

Free program to prepare children for Kindergarten. Program is located at Forest Park Elementary School. A child must be four by December 1, 2014 to enroll. Parents or guardians need to meet qualifying factors for these programs. A copy of the child's immunization record, birth certificate, and proof of parent/guardian income for the past three months and/or 2013 income tax return is needed at the time of registration.
