Welcome to the Walt Disney Elementary PTO Website!  As a parent, teacher, or staff member at Disney Elementary, you are automatically a member of our Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO).  Your level of involvement depends on you!  We invite you to become as active as you are comfortable.  Whether you have an hour a week to give or an hour this year we are happy to have you.

OUR PURPOSE

Our goal is to enhance the learning experience for each and every one of our students and to make Walt Disney Elementary a GREAT place to learn!  In addition we are all about having fun and making sure that everyone feels welcome in our building.  There is truly a place for every one!

FAMILY NIGHTS

One of the things that we do best is have fun!  By bringing our Disney families together we encourage a sense of belonging.  Our family nights include:  SKATING PARTIES, DAIRY QUEEN DAYS, FALL AND ICE CREAM SOCIAL, SHOPPING SPREE, TISSUES FOR TEARS, FAMILY PORTRAIT NIGHT and STORIES WITH SANTA.

Fall Social - Friday, October 24 from 7 – 8:30 p.m.

The Fall Social is open to all family members of Disney students featuring games in the gym, refreshments, pumpkin bowling in the primary area, pumpkin painting in the art room, and trick or treating down the hallways in some of the classroom doors.  Students (and children of all ages) are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.

Shopping Spree - Thursday, November 13 from 3 – 7 p.m.

The Shopping Spree is held on the same day as conferences, and is an opportunity to get a head start on your holiday shopping.  The gym will be filled with a wide variety of vendors

Christmas Crafts - December 8 – 10 from 3 to 5 p.m.

This is an opportunity for your child to make a homemade gift for their family.

Fundraiser Party-October 3 from 3:30-5:30

St. Patrick’s Day Treat - Tuesday, March 17

The PTO provides a “green” treat for the students.  One year we served green donuts, another year green slushes.

Ice Cream Social - Friday, May 15 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

The Ice Cream Social is an event open to all members of Disney families.  Refreshments are served, the basket raffle is held, health fair is held in the primary area, and we have firemen and a smokehouse to teach fire safety.

Fun Run - Friday, June 5, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The entire student body participates in an afternoon of challenging events (including the Fun Run) that culminates with a tug of war between the 5th and 6th graders.

ACTIVITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS

Throughout the year the PTO recognizes our students on special occasions and for reaching accomplishments.  We provide green treats on ST. PATRICK’S DAY, an ARTS program introducing our students to art, FUN RUN, SUMMER READING CHALLENGE, WEEKLY BAGEL SALES POPCORN PARTIES, and time during the holidays for our students to prepare a home-made CHRISTMAS CRAFT for their family.  All of these activities require many volunteers to run successfully.

OUR BUDGET

With all of the above offered services, there are expenses.  While we try to minimize the amount of time spent on “fundraising” it must be done to support our efforts.  The bulk of our budget is provided by the profits from our FALL MARKET DAY FUNDRAISER.  This budget is supplemented by programs like our monthly MARKET DAY sale, participating in the MEIJER COMMUNITY REWARD PROGRAM, TARGET TAKE CHARGE PROGRAM, CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS, and BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION, Continue to send in your used ink cartridges and cell phones.  These turn into money to help support our computer lab.

THANK YOU

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

In addition to supporting the above mentioned activities and services, PTO monies are also used to support FIELDTRIPS, CLASSROOM SUPPLIES, PLAYGROUND ENHANCEMENTS, STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK, ASSEMBLIES, LOCAL CHARITIES, KINDERGARTEN PRINCIPAL VISITS, 6TH GRADE FAREWELL/CARICATURES, STUDENT COUNCIL, COMPUTER LAB, DARE PROGRAM, LIBRARY, 6TH GRADE CAMP, SAFETY/SERVICE SQUAD, GUEST SPEAKERS, PAPER PEOPLE, and MEAP SNACKS.  So as you can see we offer a variety of activities and services to our students and staff throughout the year.  We are always looking for new ideas and new faces.  Won’t you consider joining us?
