Symmetry means that something is the same on both sides.
People and animals consider symmetry to be beautiful. Animals choose mates based on how symmetrical they appear. The Greek Parthenon is an example of symmetry in architecture.
To learn about symmetry, students in 1st and 2nd grade created paintings of ladybugs. Ladybugs have symmetrical patterns, the dots are the same on both sides. The kids in art class created ladybugs that have symmetrical dot patterns. You can almost see their brains working as they stamp out the symmetrical dots.
The last picture on this page is a ladybug sunning herself at the beach by Racquel.
