Tigers Have Stripes
Students in grades K-2 are creating tiger paintings. I asked the kids if they knew any facts about tigers before we started this lesson. They knew some. Then we read an informational text about tigers and learned a lot of new facts. We learned some tigers like to live where it is snowy, that tigers like water and that they have a varied diet that includes fish, frogs, lizards, birds, boars and deer. The mom raises the young cubs and teaches them for two years before they head out on their own.
The kids then used geometric shapes to layout their tiger paintings. Then they painted them with tempera paints and added drawn details. Color mixing is one of their favorite things to do in art class.
