Lesson Focus: Endings     GLCE: W.PR.03.02

Literature used (if applicable): Wednesday Surprise by

Eve Bunting

Introduction:  Today IÕm going to read a book called Wednesday Surprise.

Teaching:  What is a surprise?  Where do you find a surprise in a story? Do you find the surprise in the beginning, middle, or ending? Have you ever been surprised, and can you describe it? How did it make you feel?  Who was involved?

Active Involvement:  Students will listen to the story and make predictions about what the surprise ending is.  Before the end of the story is read, students will list different surprise endings.

After readingÉ as a whole group make a list of surprise endings.

Applying the Skill or Strategy:  Today when you are writing, I want you to practice writing one surprise ending of your own.

DonÕt share the surprise with your friends because everyone will have a chance to guess the surprise as you read your writing in the AuthorÕs chair.
