Writer’s Workshop Mini-Lesson Plan

 

Lesson Focus:  Prewriting  GLCE:  W.PR.03.02 apply a variety of pre-writing strategies for both narrative and information text (e.g. graphic organizers such as story maps, webs, venn diagrams) in order to generate, sequence and structure ideas (e.g. sequence for beginning, middle, end; problem/solution; compare/contrast)

 

Literature used (if applicable): Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge written by Mem Fox.

 

Introduction: Discuss with the students what a memory is.  Have them share certain personal memories.  Read the story, focusing on the memory illustrated in the text.

 

Teaching:  As a whole group, create a web that illustrates the memory of each character in the book.     

 

 

Active Involvement:  Discussion of memories.  

 

 

Applying the Skill or Strategy:  Have the students prewrite using their own memory.
