Lesson Focus: Poetry Pattern    GLCE:W.GN.00.02

 

 

Introduction:  Patterns are all around us, even in our writing. Read Ň A Pattern of my Favorite PoemÓ book. This is a book of kid poems by Regie Routman.

 

Teaching:  Re read poem underlining poem ŇlikesÓ in green and ŇdislikesÓ in red.

 

Active InvolvementÉ. Brainstorm  with students, forming the two groups Ňlikes and dislikesÓ with responses. Use broad categories like food, people, activities, etc.

Likes- friends, Mom pizza

Dislikes – carrots, peas, broccoli

 

Applying the Skill or Strategy:

Write the responses into a pattern, followed by a picture:

Green ink – I like friends.                  drawing

Red ink – I donŐt like carrots.        drawing

Green ink – I like Mom.               drawing

Red ink – I donŐt like peas.           drawing

Green ink – I like pizza.              drawing

Red ink – I donŐt like broccoli.        drawing
