French IV In the area of communication, The student will: Develop listening and speaking skills through regular use of the language lab; Engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions as well as understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics; Present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics; Create varied writing samples such as stories, journals, reports, essays, letters, poetry and skits; and Communicate about a variety of topics including current events, literature, and history.
In the area of culture, The student will: Explore the role of key figures in French history; Explore France's role in the global community; Expand knowledge of art and music; and Expand familiarity with French cinema.
In the area of connections, The student will: Reinforce and/or expand personal knowledge of geography, language arts, technology, music and the arts, history, life skills, and science.
In the area of comparisons, The student will: Compare and contrast the French language with the English language and recognize the ways in which language reflects culture; Compare sound systems, word order patterns, cognates, grammatical structures, and vocabulary; and Compare and contrast French and American cultures in the areas of life styles, attitudes, and life choices.
In the area of communities, The student will: Use the language and knowledge of culture both within and beyond the school setting in a variety of activities which may include the use of technology, community field trips, travel abroad opportunities, and native speaker interaction; and Show evidence of becoming life-long learners by using French for personal enjoyment and enrichment
German I In the area of communication, The student will: Develop listening and speaking skills through regular use of the language lab (high school only); Engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, exchange opinions, and understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics; and Present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics including the following: daily life encompassing family, school and leisure-time activities; making purchases; weather; modes of transportation; sports; and expressions of time.
In the area of culture, The student will: Explore the products, behavioral practices, and perspectives of Germany; Explore the increasing ethnic diversity of modern German society; Experience traditional cuisine; Examine daily life rituals; Explore the German educational system; Discuss family relationships; Understand the impact of environmental protection; Develop an understanding of the German shopping experience; and Explore the products and perspectives of the given cultures.
In the area of connections, The student will: Reinforce and expand knowledge of geography, mathematics, science, technology, language arts, life skills, music, ecology, and the arts.
In the area of comparisons, The student will: Compare and contrast the English language with the German language; Recognize the ways in which language reflects culture; Identify basic word order patterns, cognates, grammatical structures, vocabulary, and formulas for politeness; and Compare and contrast German and American cultures in the areas of clothing sizes, school systems, regional cuisine, eating customs, the number system, traditional celebrations, the calendar, and routine social courtesy.

German II In the area of communication, The student will: Develop listening and speaking skills throught regular use of the language lab (high school only); Engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, exchange opinions, and understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics; and Present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics include the following: leisure-time activities; family celebrations; school and daily life; shopping and essential errands; travel; food preparation; health, fitness and nutrition; map reading; and getting around in the city.
In the area of culture, The student will: Explore the products, behavioral practices, and perspectives of Germany and German speaking countries; Experience traditional German cuisine; Explore German media; Discover specialty stores and shopping routines; Explore health, nutrition and fitness routines; and Examine the geography of the German speaking countries.
In the area of connections, The student will: Reinforce and expand knowledge of geography, arithmetic, science, technology, language arts, health, music, the metric system and the arts.
In the area of comparisons, The student will: Compare and contrast the English language with the German language and recognize the ways in which language reflects culture; Explore the linguistic differences between the regions; Identify word order patterns, cognates, grammatical structures, vocabulary, and formulas for politeness; and Compare and contrast German and American cultures in the areas of healthy living, regional cuisine, eating customs, lodging, vacation and traveling, traditional celebrations, holidays, the calendar, and routine social courtesy.

In the area of culture, The student will: Explore the products, behavioral practices, and perspectives of Germany and German speaking countries; Experience traditional German cuisine; Explore German media; Explore German fashions; Discuss etiquette; Develop a better understanding of health, nutrition and fitness routines; Examine the geography of the German speaking countries; and Read classical and modern German literature.
