Back in January the Schuchard Volunteer Organization put together a committee for the purposes of reviewing our current by-laws. From time to time we do this in order to ensure that our organization has the room it needs to continue to grow and provide the best possible learning experience your child can have. Our by-law committee was comprised of several of our wonderful volunteers, parents, and current Board Memebers who spent the majority of their free time last month reviewing our by-laws. At the February SVO meeting, these changes were presented by the committee and discussed. You can get the current by-laws here and a copy of the proposed by-laws here. These by-laws will be voted on for approval at our March 8th General SVO Meeting. Since the proposed by-laws will change the timeline for the Executive Board Election, nominations will now be accepted through our March meeting in anticipation of the new guidleines being ratified. ]]> On Saturday, November 10, 2011, the Schuchard Elementary "Thunder Stallions FLL Robotics Team" competed in "Thunder Quest" at Henry Ford II High School. They brought their Lego Robot "Shockwave" along with their project presentation and set forth to impress the Judges. The FLL Competition consists of a robot challenge and judging in three areas; project presentation, technical review of the robot and teamwork challenge (where they have to solve a problem as a team). The Stallions impressed the judges in all categories, receiving high marks and praise at every stage. At the end of a very long and exhausting day, the Thunder Stallions were awarded the Excellence in Programming Trophy and earned a slot in the State Championship placing an impressive 11th out of a field of 42 teams. Team members include: Raymund Belz Jr., Lauren Crist, Fahteh Gill, Jacob Hamameh, Wil Harrison, Zac Harrison, Justin Jawanda, Malika Khaira, Ryan Larson, Christine Perumalil, Jacob Thomas, Joshua Thomas and of course Shockwave the Robot. The team is coached by: Head Coach Erik Larson, Assistant Coaches: Ray Belz, Jeff Crist, Ziad Hamameh and Project Coaches Jo Belz, Regina Crist, Lynne Hamameh and Teri Larson. Wow! What a spooktacular Fall Festival we had this year!!! As most of you saw, we decided to run Fall Fest a little bit different this year. With the efforts of SVO and Schuchard Staff, we were able to raise $1,000 that went right back into the classrooms! A special thank you to all of the volunteers and teaching staff who gave up their own time to make it a huge success!

Come join us Friday October 28th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for our annual Fall Festival! After a huge success last year, our classroom pumpkin contest will be back! Make sure you come and vote for your favorite pumpkin! Enjoy a ton of more games and prizes this year, as well as a spook house. We will be selling apple cider and donuts throughout the night. We will also have many other snacks and beverages available for purchase. Don't forget, school appropriate costumes are welcome!

It’s back to school time for Macomb County’s one hundred and thirty thousand students. A growing number have special needs …like learning disabilities that require services in their local school district. Macomb voters have a proud legacy of supporting local schools AND quality education. But our local schools are now losing more than 100 million dollars each year. Severe state aid cuts, federal revenue cuts, and lost property taxes, have forced local schools to increase class sizes and cut programs. On November 8th , voters can restore part of this multi-million dollar loss. A Special Education Enhancement millage would give every school district in Macomb County much-needed additional money. At a cost of about 20 cents per day for the average homeowner, funds from the 1.2 mill proposal would go first for special education services, which would then free up general fund money and help ALL students in EVERY district.
