Motions of Objects:
IV.3.HS.1 Analyze patterns of force and motion in the operation of complex machines.
1st semester

Students will:

  • Explain how machines change the direction, amount, and distance through which a force acts
IV.3.HS.2 Explain energy conversions in moving objects and machines.
1st semester

Students will:

  • Analyze the types of energy conversions taking place in a machine
  • Calculate the efficiency of a machine
Waves & Vibrations:
IV.4.HS.1 Relate characteristics of sounds that we hear to properties of sound waves.
2nd semester

Students will:

  • Describe and compare sound waves in terms of frequency, amplitude, wavelength, and velocity
IV.4.HS.2 Explain how we see colors of objects.
2nd semester

Students will:

  • Explain that colors differ as a result of wavelengths of light
  • Explain how light interacts with objects(reflection, absorption, and refraction)
IV.4.HS.3 Describe waves in terms of their properties
2nd semester

Students will:

  • Explain that waves transfer energy from one place to another
  • Describe the properties of waves
  • Recognize the units used to measure wave properties
IV.4.HS.4 Describe different types of waves and their technological applications.
2nd semester

Students will:

  • Describe mechanical waves
  • Classify the components of the electromagnetic spectrum
  • Recognize that the amount of energy transferred determines the use of a wave
  • Identify examples and applications of mechanical and electromagnetic waves
