Achievement 

  • National Merit: UCMST has had 47 National Merit Scholars over the past 8 years.
  • Thunderchickens FIRST Robotics team is the 2006 and 2008 World Champion and has finished TOP TEN in the nation five of the past seven years. The Thunderchickens team was the winner of the Chairman's Award at the Detroit Regional in 2007.
  • UCMST students have participated annually in both the Michigan Math Prize Competition and the American Competition. Their scores have consistently placed our program among the top high schools in Michigan.

Facility - The UCMST is housed in the Joan C. Sergent Instructional Resource Center, a specially designed facility that includes the highest level of current technology. State of the art instructional components are featured in every science laboratory, computer labora­tory, and classroom.

Curriculum -
College level instruction and facilities enable the UCMST students to have the following academic experience and credentials: one and one half credits of C++ and Java, readiness for Calculus III, laboratory proficiency in analytic methods and biotechnology including polymerase chain reactions and sequencing and experience with multivariable research in a “Design of Experiments” statistical model. Scientific research is a formal integrated four-year academic strand for all students.

Internships -
The UCMST Junior Internship Program has been recognized by the Michigan Department of Education. Each junior is given a career experience in a selected professional setting. Recent internships include: transplant surgery, orthopedic research and car­diology at Henry Ford Detroit Hospital; engineering at FANUC Robotics, Ford Michigan Proving Ground, Trompeter Enterprises and Custom Biogenics; emergency room medicine at Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center, St. John - Macomb Hospital and Detroit Receiving; nurse anesthetist at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and Henry Ford Hospital - Warren; software development at Siemens, Vectorform Game Design and eyeWyre Software Studios. Each student develops a formal presentation of his or her experience in the fall of the senior year.

The UCMST Students
are highly involved in a full range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as: varsity athletics, music, theater, debate, student government, and community service. The faculty and students work together to schedule a creative array of school day and after school events. The World Champion Thunderchickens FIRST Robotics team offers an excellent experience in computers, engineering, problem solving, and teamwork.

Utica Community Schools, the second largest district in the state of Michigan, serves over 29,000 students. Located fifteen miles north of Detroit, it is characteristically suburban, encompassing two municipalities and four townships. The community is largely residential with strong economic ties to the automotive industry. The UCS has enjoyed a long-standing tradition of exceptional citizen support, which has resulted in numerous innovative educational programs such as the UCMST.
